do I have a lift??
I've got an 88 standard bed 4x4 with 33x12.50's on it. From what I can tell, I have no lift. I'm going to do a body lift after I find a bed. Any idea if I have a suspension lift... I want to order one but don't know if I have one already. There is roughly 6 or 7" from upper cut of front fender to top of tire. Only rubs when I turn sharp or pull into the driveway. Any help is much appreciated. Also, if this helps, the sway bar had about 4" long bolts attaching it in the front.

Stock front height is listed on the page below:
http://www.off-road.com/toyota/tech/torsion/index.htm
Approx. 13.5-14" from top of rim (15" assumed) to the lip of front fender.
Sounds like you must have a lift, add (33-15)/2 (TireDia - WheelDia / 2 = Sidewall Height = 9") or so to the 6-7" you list and that is 15" - 16", sounds like between 1" and 2.5" of lift, either suspension or a body lift, look for the lift blocks between the frame and body:

Nossir, not my experience at all. Figuring 8" rims of the proper offset - On a 84-88 (pickup) 84-89(4Runner), only about 3" are required to fit 33s and get no rubbing at all (assumes pounding in the pinch weld too.) On a 89/90-95 3" lift will fit 33s, but you can still get them to rub a bit. 4" is really needed. With 10 rims add 2".
With shackles and cranked torsions yes you can run 33s (okay for like if you buy the tires first, then the lift and gears a couple months later) but they will rub on every occasion except straight ahead. No offroading.

89 4runner 33's no lift
85 xcab 33's 4inch lift
It is hard to see but there is plenty of room on the 4runner, weve been wheeling fairly good and it hasnt rubbed once. Obviously my truck hasnt rubbed yet, either. We are not running long travel shocks or changed the bump stops so the limitation of travel keeps the meat away from theh sheet.

I ran 33s on 8" rims on my 85 Runner for a few weeks before I lifted it, and they rubbed at any opportunity - turning into driveways, turning full lock on level ground etc. That 4Runner appears to have some lift - look at the way mine was when stock with the 225s.

Made the picture a clicky, because it is kinda big
My buddies 89 stock with 31's and my old 89 with 30's stock suspension hight.
I know we didnt put a lift in 4runner - i would remember that. He did make new shackles to get rid of the sagging butt and cranked the torsion bar a hair to level it out. Besides he wasnt to do a SAS before he lifts it
I am also pretty cofident that I could mount 35's with my 4inch lift without problem - the only reason I dont is gearing right now. And then if I regeared lower I am in birfield bustin teritory and buying longfeilds and while I am in the axle rebuild phase a locker would be nice for the rear. Anyway my piggy bank is a little low for that..
To the original poster I think your question can be ansered easy - look for body lifts as pictured, lift blocks between the axle and leaf springs, finally count the leafs in the spring pack. I dont remember howmany a stock se has, but a lifted set will have more. If none of that exsist then you don't have a lift.

there's no body lift yet, I will add one soon. As far as suspension goes, my truck isn't nearly as tall as the white extended cab pictured a few posts up. I'm running 33x12.50's on 15x10" wheels with 5" backspacing.

Measure the top of rim to wheel well lip distance, as I mentioned earlier. Subtract 13.5" - 14" from that height and this is the lift you have. As noted above (original calculations were incorrect), looks like you have between 1" and 2.5" of lift, maybe from cranked or heavier torsion bars. If so, the front a-arms should be angled down and not sitting level.

It is so simple to grab a tape measure then measure the front fender down to the lip of the front rim, even a 3 year old can do it :
13.5" - 14" is stock. Any more and you have some lift:

the official measurement is...... 13"! NO LIFT!! That answers my question. Thank you very much. Sorry I didn't just do that in the first place. Now, care to explain where this pesky wire connector is that I should clean instead of replacing my knock sensor. haha
