Yes they have one in the bottom of the radiator. The ATF flows through it all the time, as long as the engine is running.

ok bc i think on the jeeps the cooler only works in over drive. wondering if that was the case with tacomas.. i pull a 21ft bass boat in the summer. didnt know if i should take it out of over drive or just push the ect.. normally i just push the ect and push the button to take it out of overdrive. pulls better

It flows all the time, even idling in park, neutral, reverse, drive, low, high, 4wd, 2wd...well you get the point.

That said, the stock tranny cooler is always not enough ... a lot of people decide to get a beefier one if they're doing a lot of heavy towing.

I don't think there is a "factory" hitch. Everyone I have seen has been a dealer or port add-on. I have seen both Hidden Hitch and Reese (what was on mine from the port) on brand-new 4Runners.

I have the twoing package with the class 3 reese, but I dont think there is any extra cooling with the towing package, everyone has the same tranny cooler as far as I know... right on the bottom of the radiator. A lot of guys do run a Hayden Cooler for thier tranny, me personally, I dont tow anything...so, I just stick with stock.

I had the same thing but I know mine was added at the port. Like Rocko, I don't remember Toyota offering an extra cooler with the 4Runners or Tacomas as part of the towing package. Currently, I have the TRD transmission cooler on my 4Runner from when I had the supercharger. Now that the s/c is gone, it's just there for piece of mind.

I think Autozone has them for $50-$60 the last time I was there. As for install: Transmission Cooler Install on a Toyota 4Runner
