disengaging 4wd
how come i have to put my 4wd stick back in 2wd and then back up about 10-15 feet to disengage my 4wd. Is this normal. should i not just be able to unlock my hubs and stick it in 2wd and then just go. Also sometimes my 4wd light turns off but i'm still in 4wd. Is my 4runner just odd or do others have to do this too.

i had autolocking hubs but got got warn manuals a long time ago and still have to do the silly backing up thing to disengage the 4wd. Is there anything i can do so i don't have to do the backing up thing anymore?

Gotta love it when you comes across the same subject you were going to post about, Although i cant help the originator of the post Maybe i can squeeze some more info out of you fellahs. I have shift on the fly 4 wheel drive. But when i try to engage it the 4WD light flicks on and makes a clickDa click click sound...<lovely imitation you ask me> Anyone know what that could be? I thought it might be either a sylenoid <sp> or the vacuum hubs... And also Would i have to do the silly backup thing to disengage my 4WD??? Any Info Would Be Appreciated Greatly!!!
Heres to always savin someones butt!
Thanks~

P.s. My Runner is a '94 V6 3.0l Automatic.

The warn hubs do the same thing the aisins do. I would think that there isn't any need to back up with the manual hubs. But I could be wrong.
If it were my guess, I would say that you have a vacuum leak somewhere or a solenoid going bad.
Good Luck
