Dieseling / Pinging question
The other day I was checking some things on my truck and now it has started to ping and now it diesels some times. My idle is also a lot rougher than it use to be, especially at stop signs. Right before it started doing these things, I took off the fuel cut solenoid to make sure it is working properly and I also removed and cleaned the EGR vacuum modulator. I removed some vacuum lines and some electrical wires while checking and getting to these things, but they seem to be back in the correct places. What could be causing these kinds of problems? I have a 1987 22R with California emission controls.

The manual for my 84 Camry lists Vaccuum leakage and leaking EGR valve as possibilities. Since you messed with the EGR modulator, maybe its that. I don't know anything about the EGR modulator, but maybe you damaged it and its not working properly?

That one of the things that I am thinking I did. I noticed after I put it back together that there is a small crack in the cap. I will have to figure out a way to test it.
