Did you get a bigger spare when upsizing tires?

I was at National Tire and Wheel today in Wheeling WV. I picked up another 15x8 MT Classic II and BFG Mud 33x12.5 for use as a spare. I've been riding around for almost a year with a worn down 32 up under the truck.

This got me thinking. What did you do when you upsized your tires on your rig. Did the spare get left alone, or did it get upsized too?

One of the main reasons I did mine now is since I'm now locked front and rear. (Well, after I get my OBA in I will be.. )

Well ummm I decided when I got 35s that the factory Bridgestone would be a bit small.

I left the spare for awhile, then bought a matching tire for it, still working on the matching wheel though. Can't wait to get that

(I have a carrier)

I upsized my stock unused 265/70 spare to one of my worn Big-O 265/75's when I got the 285's...285 spare won't fit. Yet.

How large of a spare can you fir under a 3rd generation? I've got 265/75R16 Revo's with a 265/70R16 goodyear spare. I don't even think I could fit a 265/75 in the stock location, especially since I have a trailer hitch mount. Any thoughts????

you can fit a 315/75/16 (35") under there with some modification.

well if you have an auto locker, i recomend allthe same. If you drive with two different size tires on an auto locked axle...well i can only imagine the multitude of scenarios. If you dont have a locker, who cares.

i'm with choice 2 too. Thanks to tacobell for the 265/75/16 mtr spare before i even bought new tires.
The worn out spare does fit snug tight beneath the truck. I dont think a new one would fit.

If you join most club, they required the spare tires be the same or close to it.
just think what you're gonna do if you get a flat on the trail...

When I went from 28s to 32s I did, but when I went from 32s to 33s I did not. I would say that if there was a significant change in size or tread type (all-season to MT, for example) I would go with an appropriate spare. If it's a more subtle change, it's not as big of a deal.

Hey.... Wheeling. I grew up in Elm Grove (just outside Wheeling). I hope you didn't travel all that way from Pburg just to pickup a spare?!? My tires are still 265/70 (Coopers). Hoping to get into some 265/75's after I wear out my current set.

I have the same size spare tire/wheel and rotate them all out. So when I buy new tires I have to buy 5, but it keeps me with the same tires (type and brand) everytime. Plus, I dont have to worry about having one good tire and four bad ones.
Just my personnal preference.

I was in Washington PA already so it wasn't too far. Plus, I stopped a friend's audio shop (Look and Listen) to check out some stuff.

I also stopped at the new Cabelas store outside of Wheeling. I was able to get out of there in 45 minutes . I'll be taking the family there for some shopping soon. They have literally 100's of animals (taxidermy) on display, a cafe' and lots of good deals. The place is simply awesome!!
