Deeper/louder horn mod?

I am tired of the Road Runner (meepmeep) horn sound coming from my 4runner. I want a deeper louder horn that will make even the domestic rigs flinch. Can I take a horn from say a Chevy or Ford & wire it to my 4runner? Blue

or go with an air horn like I did.

Ya, i guess it's tough to gauge the loudness just by listening to an audio clip. Mine are louder than any other passenger vehicles on the road, but still not very close to the big rigs. Keep in mind though that the air compressor's they are using are way too big to fit anywhere except in the bed of my pickup truck.

Well Joey UK Meyers is coming up tomorrow from Spokane & I am pretty sure he has an AH set up. I will see what it looks like & let you know what I do. Thanks for the link. Blue

A bit off topic but, at the last Summit Truckstyle show, this fullsize from the mudden militia had 11 air horns under the toolbox in the bed. That was loud, the guy had that they were 4KW on his specs. sheet. Also, i too am unhappy with the 4Runner horns.

The air horn listed in wolo-mfg.com is 152 dB or 4 dB louder than the shuttle engine. I would wear hearing protection when using it. Keep it away from windows and small children. lol

I too suffer the whimpy horn sound. I think the horn on my truck is saying "I am a weak and puny. Please don't run me over."

Air horns say "I have intestinal fortitude and I fear nothing but taxes and god, so get the ˟˟˟˟˟˟ out of the way".

Lightbulb Hella dual horn install CHEAP!

I have always built Saab rally cars, Any old Saab 900 in a bone yard will have dual Hella horns, one low tone one high tone. They are located on the passenger side front right behind the headlight. They have a nice universal type mounting bracket and wire hookups, you may want to wire a relay in to run them just to keep consistent power to them, all of the local bone yards here just give that type of part away, or even tell you hey that will fit in your tool box, take it!

At what distance tho Jim?
The solid rocket boosters would blow your eardrums out and send you flying if you were within 200ft of it at liftoff.
Even the minuteman and peacekeepers we launched were extreemely loud at a decent distance.
Anyway, those horns must be friggin loud to even get a comparison.

I believe the shuttle engine makes 150 dB at ~1200 meteres. 300m to the shuttle engine is 200 dB.

I have a horn louder than anything you will ever see-- its a JBL 1000watt rms compression horn with a 4"VC ---if you wanted to rig up some different sounds (like with a cb radio) that would blow the crap out of anything. I really dont have a use for that horn, i do concert sound and that particular horn is so loud it hurts my ears with earplugs in. let me know if you want it.

I got a pair of "freeway horns" from my local harbor freight last week on sale for $9. They are red and had this ugly silver piece over the opening. I pried the silver junk thingies loose and painted them black before installing them. They sound much better - very similar to my wifes 03 Acure TL - which has a horn like a cadillac...
