Deaver Springs Get Even Better!
Check it out. Deaver recently introduced these Baja Bushings, which can be retrofitted into any of their 2.5" wide leafsprings with a 1.5" bushing ID (like their 62" race-pack and their bolt-in Prerunner pack). They've also made these bushings with dimensions to fit stock Toyota springs (2.25" wide), which would work great with their AAL kit. They offer 18-degrees of unrestricted articulation and pivot on a Teflon-lined bearing. Some of you will notice that this may seem similar to AOR's Orbit Eyes, which offer about twice the range of articulation, but also require custom-made springs and wider spring hangers/shackles, etc. I just ordered a set for our long-travel Tacoma and our Donahoe-equipped Tacoma this morning. Will report back as soon as I receive them.

Those look pretty cool. I'm going to be getting a set of 62" Deavers in the next couple of months. Those would be another nice addition to the springs.

What are you running in the rear right now? Did you see how we set up the rear suspension on our 1st gen 4Runner? I would have rather come through the bed with a low-profile shock hoop tied into the rollcage and run a set of 16-18" shocks with a pair of 62's, but the owner really wanted to keep everything under the bed. The whole setup actually ended up working out great. Really complemented the coilover caddy kit up front nicely.
By the way, are you planning to cage your Runner anytime soon? I designed a simple replacement cage for ours that might also work out really well for you. Let me know if you are interested. I'd like to see the design get used.

Right now I'm just running the deaver AAL and really crappy shocks. Yeah I saw how you guys did the cage on that 4runner. At the time you did that article I didnt want to go through the bed and was thinking of going that route, but that has changed.
I'm going to run the 62" deavers (10.5" or 12.5" arch?) with ESB 10.5" Shackles and 18" King Triple bypasses. The plan is to build a bed cage for now and do a full cage that will tie into the bed cage later on. I want to get around 17" of travel for the rear. Once thats done I will add a bypass to the front as well.
I havent really decided on a cage design yet. The one you have shown looks pretty simple and you add the rest for the front of the cab pretty easily. The only bedcage I have seen in a first gen is this one. I like the design minus the spare tire mount (I want to keep my tailgate).

I hi-jacked my own damn thread. Anyway, we haven't actually had a chance to build that rollcage yet. I think you're talking about the bedcage that we built for our Tacoma. That's a whole other deal. Those 4Runner rollcage blueprints are just the perimeter dimensions, to verify what would fit where. You know? It would be really easy to add any cross-pracing or continue the rollcage forward and down the A-pillars. If you're planning to come through the bed with your shocks, it would be really easy to just put a crossbar right behind the rear seat at the height of the bedrails and mount the shocks to that. I checked the dimensions and it would work GREAT. The most difficult thing about installing 62's in your Runner is going to be the rear shackle placement. There's a bodymount in the way of where it should go (above the framerails or through the framerails), so you're limited to a shorter shackle (around 9"), mounted under the frame.

ahhh no one has done chevy's on a taco...but i think i am going to do it anyways.....my middle leaf snapped the other day so i must put on new spring quickly

Wow. I wasn't expecting these parts so quickly, but they showed up today and they look great. The fit and finish is excellent. I can't wait to get them installed.

Well, I got a set of these new Baja Bushings installed in our DD Tacoma and have been driving on them for the past week. The ride-quality has improved slightly, and there's no noticable amount of side-to-side play or slop in the way it handles on the street.
I installed the other set on our long-travel Tacoma over the weekend and was really impressed with the way the suspension cycled. That's 18" of vertical wheel travel almost full articulated.
