Has anyone had any dealings with the service departments at chuck hutton toyota, or covington pike toyota of memphis.I have some warranty work I need to get done.My auto tranny shudders in third and overdrive.Just started all of a sudden at 8,200 mile mark.Checked fluid. Its fine.It has a aux cooler on it and a trans temp gauge. It normally runs around a 100 deg.It shot up to 160 when all this started happening.I was towing a small trailer with my atv in it. I took it out of overdrive on the hills. It felt like a tire out of ballance but all of them havent lost any weights. It shudders so bad it rattles things in the cab.I drove it 45 miles one way no problem.Mostly hiway. Then on the way back when I got up to speed it started the shuddering.manual says could be torque converter or over drive clutch and a few othere things.Just want it fixed right the first time. Thanks for any help on the dealers track record.

Hey I'm generalizing. There are a ton of good ones...with GOOD workers. I'm talking about some places where the guys you have to deal with are complete jerk offs.

I just don't trust anyone. If you can always have someone you know do the work or try and do it yourself. Unfortuatly I had a problem with one of my other vehicles and a warranty issue. Long story short, Picked up my car and it had 17 extra miles on it "that they actually notated on the RO" trash in it. 2sets of seat covers and floor mats and absolutly coated in dirt. My car has 300 miles on it. With a phone call for me to bring it back "they had to order parts" they actually said "well we don't do that sort of thing sir" Like I would expect them to tell the truth? Just can't trust anyone. This was the dealer!

ya i work @ a dealership as a tech, sometimes you feel as if you delt with the customer things would be better. but then again you have those people that you dont want to deal with. theres tough people to deal with all over the car buisness.

Yeah, I could only imagine the number of idiots who come into the dealership on a daily basis... Something that I should take into consideration.
Secondly, yesterday I had the worst experience at a Toyota dealership I have ever had in my entire life, so I'm a little hot off the press haha.

From personal experience, ANY Transmission problem at the dealership will be cause for a new/rebulilt tranny. I had a 96 GMC Jimmy with a tranny problem that required a $200 fix to the valve body but the dealer said I needed a new tranny. I know this doesn't help you since you are covered under warranty but for anyone who is not, get the codes and do some internet research then go to a reputable tranny shop like AAMCO. You're less likely to get hosed if you know whats going on with your tranny.

I've been having problems with my Toyota Pathfinder too!
But seriously so much depends on the individual dealership, there are two around here and one is awesome, West Ashley Toyota has a great group of service folks and very pleasant to deal with.... whereas the other place... well I wouldn't let them touch a matchbox car.

No offense to all of you tech guys, I truly hope that you are better than my local dealership. I was planning a trip and didnt have time to do the tune up myself on my truck. I dropped it off to let the dealer do it for me, figured I would be nice and let my truck have all Toyota parts. Well when I picked up the truck they told me a problem had developed, my motor had burnt 2 valves and was missing horribly. Then the service writer told me my truck wasnt worth fixing(its a 91 3.0). I was TICKED, drove it home and after a few minutes of rerouting my spark plug wires the missing disappeared. Needless to say I have a recall on my truck and am unwilling to take it to the Columbus,MS dealership. My wife called and complained and the manager said to bring the truck back and they would fix it, but sorry I would feel safer letting my 4 year old work on my truck.
