Deal on stock Hella fogs for 96-98 4Runners

I may not be posting in the right place, but wasn't sure where to. I just bought two sets of the exact replacement Hellas that came stock on the these trucks from 96 to 98. Found 'em on ebay and there is another auction going for another set with a starting bid of 24.95. Complete kits, including wiring! He had more on his ebay store, too, I believe. Heres the link:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...MakeTrack=true

Update as of 2-3-07: Apparently he has these all the time, because since I bought mine he's had several sets of these on ebay! Great deal!

Yeah I bought a set of those a while back for $35 shipped. I was going to put them on but that kit doesn't come with the proper brackets. I got a set of Hella 500's from Advanced Auto for $65 and put those on instead.

I was wondering if that might be the case. Luckily mine came stock with them so I have the needed bracketry and they will fit into it 'cause they are the same exact light otherwise. I ordered two sets anyway. Might use the second for back-up lights!

I bought a set from that same seller. they are great lights. It beats the $150 from PP. My originals lost all of the reflective coating on the inside. The lenses are glass and the housings are composite. Good quality. I was at autozone getting some replacement bulbs, and right next to the 55w h3s were 100w h3s. The have a small tab you have to bend back to get it in the socket. They are much brighter than the originals. So much brighter that it made my headlights look dim. So I ordered some hella 80w/100w h4 bulbs for the headlights. That too was a great improvement. They're almost as bright as hid's, but without the $300 price tag and compromise of hi beams.

I actually need to get those again.
I had them and someone decided to back up into my bumper and smash the glass on them....
I had actually altered them a bit.
On the inside I took out the little black thing that has the light only shine down.
(don't worry it didn't blind anyone)
Made excellent fog And driving lights, is some cases eliminated the need for high beams were sometimes I would use them but still not really need them...

just bought a set

I just bought a set of these but haven't received them yet. I didn't look like the brackets were an easy fit. Has anyone done any mods on fog light brackets similar to the stock brackets. I may end up combing the junk yards for them.

I just got mine, too. The brackets that come on them won't work with the stock brackets, of course, but if you're lucky enough to have had the lights on the truck originally, they'll bolt right in place of the old ones.

Hmmm, so you can put the 100 watt bulbs in these with no wiring issues? I may try that. And you can remove the little black bulb gaurd without damaging the lens from the heat? I suppose that's there just to cut down on the intensity for oncoming vehicles. The reflective stuff peeled off of mine, too. They got pretty nastly looking and fairly ineffective. We'll see how long the new ones last!

H4s will fit in the stock headlights?! I thought it took a 9003. Is that the same fit as the h4s? No wiring overheating issues with those?

I've had the 80/100w hellas in for a couple of months now and no probs. I had them in my old celica for 2 years and no probs. I also have 100w h3's in my driving lights. No problems yet. It took almost 10 years for the reflective coating to fall off the old ones, so i'm not too concerned about it. H4s and 9003s are the same. I don't know why they can't use one name...

[ hella 80w/100w h4 bulbs for the headlights. QUOTE]

There's a set of IPF H4s on ebay right now for about $25. I wonder if they are as good as the Hellas?

no, i have these- http://www.autobarn.net/hellah4.html
part #HEL83140171

when i get my winch bar i'm gonna put these on it...http://www.autobarn.net/rallye4000hid.html
they're so expensive i think i'll have to weld the mounting bolts to the mounts and reinforce the mounts so they can't be broken..

Wow, those Hellas are awesome! Big bucks, though. So what makes those H4s so special? They don't look like they would be any different than any standard halogen bulb from an auto poarts store.

I installed my new Hella fogs today and I can't believe the difference! Huge improvement and I can't wait to get the 100 watt bulbs in them! I should have done that a long time ago. My old ones were seriously wasted

go to the grocery store. buy a 100w bulb and a 50w bulb. Take them home and put them in 2 lamps and put the lamps side by side. You'll see the difference. Now do the same with your headlamps. Side by side, one headlamp looks dim compared to the other.

Came in late on this one

I found this thread looking for replacement options for the stock driving/fogs.
I have a '98 with the stock Hellas. I think I want to replace the lights and the kits that were refered to above seem like a good deal. Which ebay store might have them?
Has anyone replaced the entire valance (the piece under the bumper) to get a better look or lighting? I do not know if it would be an easy swap.

Thanks for any help!
