dead master cylinder?

dead master cylinder?

long story short.. i bought a 3rd member ( pulled rear break lines.) and some other stuff out of a wrecked 97 runner, ended up going back and buying the whole thing. i fixed the body put the parts back in and ive bled the breaks 3 or 4 times ( starting with pass rear to driver rear to pass front then to driver.) and the pedal still sinks to the floor. i have to pump it two times before i have good pressure... is there a secret way to get the air out that i dont know about or did sitting dry for two or three months ruin the master?

any ideas?

just read up that i could and probably have air in my abs system and a guy said he hit up a dirt road slammed on the breaks bled them and repeated 1 more time and that did the trick. i guess ill try that tomorrow!

Did you bench bleed the master first? Often necessary.

Sounds like the master. Do you get bubbles in the fluid out of all four lines when bleeding the system?

i have from the rear but i bleed them till it is a solid stream. im gonna try the abs thing now

SSWWEEEEETTTT!!!!! i went to a dirt field and made my abs go off about 4 times then came home and had my dad help me bleed them again and we got a ton of air out. i think my friend (pedal pusher) didnt push down hard enough and probly didnt go all the way to the floor. but they are good as new now!!

My MC went dry when I was changing the front calipers and lines. After power flushing and bleeding, I heard a click/pop sound coming from the MC while depressed the pedal. So I re-flushed and the pop is gone. Will the air ever leave the MC if you don't bench bleed it? Once you do, how do you keep the air out when reinstalling the brake lines...just got to be quick?

2000 3.4L w/abs

if you bench bleed the master it should be primed.. you will have to bleed the whole brake lines.. i had to go to a dirt parkin lot and make my abs go off 4 times then bleed them then do it again.

I did the ABS/Dirt Road trick and got a few more bubbles out. The peddle still feels soft and it sinks too far after turning on the engine. I'll be swap'n out the MC this weekend. Now I'm trying to tackle some rear brake vibration, so I'll be hunting for more info on that.

Done! I snag'd the Cardone Select MC from AAP ($111 - $30 coupon "RETMENOT123"...good till Jan 31st). The unit came with a bench bleeding kit (two threaded caps and two 8-inch hoses to recycle the juice). After priming, i hooked it up, re-bled the system, dirt roaded the ABS, re-re-bled, and now the peddle feels good again. The rear vibration is now barely noticeable. I guess the old MC seals were letting too much fluid by.

ive had the problem with my 99 sense i put full widths under it.. now i dont have abs sensors to make my abs go off. everyone says i need a 1ton mc for my brakes but i think mine is just junk?!
