Have any of you had cracks in your dashes repaired? If so, were you satified with the results. I'm interested in hearing any pros or cons.

My 91 4Runner, that I just purchased in December, is in pristine shape but has a split in the dash, right above the center A/C vents.

the interior of my '88 is pristine except for the same thing...so i'd be interested in how some fixed this.

Nope - plastic dashes do no lend themselves to repair. If you can even find someone who will do it, the results are not spectacular. Someone who is really good can generally make a decent repair but it will also usually return in a year or two as the original problem (drying and shrinking of the plastic) continues.

I'd use a dashcap, wait! I just ordered one, so I guess I AM gonna use the dashcap. It's ABS plastic and molded to fit. I'll be installing this weekend and will send pics. Although I think I did see a thread with pics on the board the other day. Why not use the dash cap?

I've been thinking for a while of trying something out. You know how the edges of the slit are higher than the rest of the dash. Well, obviously, you can't just push them back in. So, I think I'm going to try and just sand down the part that is sticking up until everything is level. (Yes, there will be a big crater in the dash now.) Then I'll find some plastic filler and fill it in. It probably won't be the prettiest of jobs or anything, and you will be able to tell it's a cheap patch job, but I'm pretty sure it will look better than how it did before repair.

Know if ya have any fiberglass skills youd be better off patching it up like that and use some clamps an fans to dry. sand it all down an get it rino lined

2nd gen 4runner dashes are a foam type dash. not solid plastic. but i'd go with fiberglass repair like marc suggested or get some great stuff and squirt it in there. or just find a junkyard or check ebay for a replacement.

that looks great! how is the fit?

fit is perfect. The thing I liked was that where it mates up with the cluster cover is a little long when you get it so you can trim it too make it fit perffectly. All I used was sandpaper.
