dash light upgrade pros and cons
I know there are tons of writeups on the subject of interior lighting mods, and that is exactly why I'm going to ask for all the info you can give me now that you've done the mods, had them over time, things that you would have done diff or have had to change since the mod, bulbs burning out, not giving the right amount of light etc. bulbs types/ manufacturers to stay away from, leds or not leds, not only for the dash but the head liner lights as well. thanks for being specific. and I also realize that there is always some new or better technology coming along, any info there would be nice as well, this is aimed mostly at the guys who did these mods a few years ago and have figured things out ( some time the hard way) and who has had no problems with their lighting mods at all, that would be interesting to find out Thanks in advance Mike

My dome light from Oznim is great and I would not change that. The LEDs that I put in my gauge don't quite cover as well as factory, but I wouldn't change that either. My glove compartment light is much better. I bought some LEDs from autoilumination and they didn't last very long. I'm going with V-leds now.

I did leds in my dome light. I did the festoon bulb with 9 leds. It was bright but created a spotlight effect. the center console was lit up but the track was dark. The factory light sucks but leds were worse. Still looking for a good alternative. From what I have learned from other cars is that usually LEDS will create hot spots in the gauges. Using better quality LEDS wil help but not eliminate that.

the front map lights are BA9s, i bought mine from autolumination.com they are 5 led (SMT i think, its the style) they worked out GREAT, a little tight gettin em in, but once they were in they are awesome. its a white light instead of that yellow, and it isnt a spot light effect, it is evenly spread over each side. havnt done the rear two domes yet but soon enough. i did the dash and temp control into LED as well, check out my profile. they turned out great, it just seems easier on the eyes than the green.

I tried the wide angle #74 for the climate control and I guess since the bulbs were so long they didn't throw a wide enough beam. The controls looked bad! they were bright in a spot about the size of a quarter then the rest of the controls were dark.

I did the red bulbs behind my white gauges 03taco, and it looked better than the aftermarket replacement covers that I found. MUCH better than the stock orange glow that the factory gave it. think I spent a whole five dollars at the part store for some 194's

oh yeah, i tried some ghetto light bulb covers for the dome light. it was red at first, then it was melting- then it was pink, not recommended for YT people.
