If you are hiring someone, I have no clue. If you are doing the boots yourself, about $20 per kit x 4 boots. If you want to save yourself a pain in the A and consider the fact that your axles are probably toast because your cracked boots have allowed them to get contaminated anyway, you can pick up some re-manned axles from napa or autozone and replace them in about 45 minutes per axle if you know what you're doing. Took me about 2 hours for the first and about 45 for the second. There are some decent write-ups which can be searched for...

Are your boots currently leaking grease or are they just showing signs of age (cracking, dryness)?

To replace the boots on both axles you will need two boot kits (P/N 04438-35060). Toyota of Dallas sells the kits for $25.20 each. Beyond that all it will cost you is time.

look half way down the page...

If you just want to replace the boots this may be the best way to go. I replaced both my axels, one broke and one b/c of busted cv boot but I kept it for a spare and will order the boots when I get around too it.

What advantage does getting whole new axle assemblies give you over just repplacing the boots? Do they come all preassembled?

they come preassembled and are a good guarantee they don't have crud/dirt or any damage from crud/dirt... supposedly autozone are not as good as dealer, but they are cheaper and warrantied. If you do them once, you will be fine doing them later if they break again (and under lifetime warranty)

Don't know much about autozone axles for toyota 4runners but a couple years ago i had to swap out some on a honda accord....bad idea, the bearings used in autozone axles are very soft and prone to pitting resulting in having to continually take'em in and exchange them. Finally, I was recommended a local axle guy who took in my cores and rebuilt them for about 125 bux.

true story I went through 3 axles from advance/auto-zone for bad bearings on my brother's camry, you can turn them before installing to check for flat spots or junk bearings... Good news though, is that our trucks don't have bearings on the shaft, only the transaxle'd FWD's do
