cv axle without a snap ring?

I just changed a driver side cv axle, I messed up the snap ring and made it too large. I figure I'd never get it off again if I tried using it this way. Has anyone ever ran one without a snap ring?

I don't think you want to do that......

If your tire droops too much it will pull the cv right out of the diff.

After reading your message I was able to ascertain your problem immediately. Being an Auburn grad you should have stuck to a mule or other suitable beast of burden with adequate intelligence to help you overcome that Auburn education. Roll Tide!!!
Seriously. Do not run without the snap ring. I just went through the same issue where a buddy of mine (Vols grad - go figure) "helped" me get the snap ring off. It's a $.99 item at the dealer and they probably won't have it in stock.

Well I thought about it and there's not much travel in the front and I think the axle is long enough to keep it in.

That isn't a good idea, most likely scenario is going to result in stripped splines or a broken axle.

You might want to re-think that...Toyota put the snap ring there for a reason.

Just take the snap ring off the old axle and use it.

The problem is that you don't have to pull the shaft all the way out to cause problems. If the wheel drops enough to pull the shaft out past the splines the you will cause damage. This is a $.99 part at the dealer and thy will have it in 2 days
