I went to my local shop and they told me it'd be about $200 to do cat-back exhaust, if I supplied the muffler. Is that a good estimate? Also, they told me I can't remove the extra cat on the car (I'm in NV, but it was a CA car), why is that?

Probably because of emmision standards. Or they just don't want to do the work of installing a aftermarket cat.

Thats brings me to a question,
I have a 2000 4runner limited v6 3.4L, what is the exaust diameter? 2.5"?

What diameter are people running aftermarket exhausts, I thought it was 2.25"? Also, NV only requires one cat, so why cant they cut out the other car and replace with straight pipe?

Well I'm assuming you have a dual exaust.
Logicly it makes no sense to put a emisions device on one exaust exit and not have one on the other exit. Keeping both of them is good because your ECU may get bad readings from the sensors if there is only one cat. Its either get rid of them both or keep'em.

Also you'll hear that some(very few) have problems after removing their converter. Insted of getting rid of it go for the alternitive; High-flow converters.

No I'm single back exhaust; California has more stringent emissions than Nevada. So this car has two cats because it's from Cali, but since I'm in Nevada I only need one cat, so I want to cut out the extra one.

So what diameter does a normal cat-back exhaust have?

Yeah.. intresting... wtf, thats a good question. Why the hell can't they remove it?

Might as well remove it yourself and go back in to get you exaust done I guess.

Unless someone else on this board is willing to explain this better.

UNR...I went with a Magnaflow catback and had it installed for about $200, but that included the muffler, pipework, and a new stainless tip. I'm not sure what shop costs are like in NV...but to me that price might be a tad high...

Btw I really like that bumper you have up front, where would I go about finding something like that?

For me its either buying one or making one, and this time I feel like being lazy.

It's an aftermarket freeflow exhaust with no resonator.

The front bumper came with my truck when it arrived from Japan.

Clearing things up, stock size is 2 1/4. That front bumper is going to be real real hard to get ahold of in the US.

I just recently had a Walker high flow cat and Flowmaster 40 with 2.25" pipe for $290 on my 22re.

On the 3.4L stock is 2.25, but your best choice for an aftermarket size is 2.50, if you go larger you'll lose too much bottom end. I recently installed a flowmaster 50 stainless steel with 2.50 tail pipe, leaving the rest stock. the california emission model needs both cats for the ECU to read correctly, since there are 2 sensors on the exhaust.
