cruse control 2nd gen

my cruse control doesnt work, the button to turn it on works and i hit the set and accle and it still doesnt work. I have no idea where the fuse for the unit would be but it does not seem to be getting any power when i turn the circut on and my uncle told me he used it when he drove it home from the auction. Anyone else have the same problem or any ideas?

Try to pull the trouble codes and see if that tells you anything. Any chiltons or the FSM will tell you how to do it. My cruise went out after I got it wet and the dashlight flashed at me. I did pull the codes, but the cruise eventually dried out and fixed itself.

something funny with my cruise too...turns on and works fine...but if i set it over about 60mph...which is always...it always wants to downshift out of overdrive...making the RPM's fly up to about 4300...any body got any ideas ?

That's normal for the 3.0 V6 equipped. My advice: Don't use the cruiise. Your right foot modulates the accelerator much better than the cruise.

mterrizzi ...try this...

After you hit the cruise button, hit the DECEL button first.
I had a similar problem and this worked for me, for some odd reason. I checked the owner's manual and it doesn't mention this step, but like I said, "It worked for me"!

I had to adjust the cruise control throttle cable to remove the slack from it, and it works much better.

Just loosened the bolts, and positioned the cable housing further away from the linkage by loosening the rear nut, and securing it with the front.

I never use my cruise control. Don't like the way it shifts so much.

I hate my cruise control. I don't use it much because it shifts so much. The last time I used it, I set it to 65 MPH at it shifted from 2500 to 4200 RPM and made my automatic transmission leak out, the oil temp light came on. I pulled over and let it run in park to cool the tranny. When I got home, I inspected and cleaned the underside with brake cleaner because the transfercase's skid plate, rear drive shaft, rear diff and axle were saturated with transmission fluid. That's how bad the leak was. Once the underside was cleaned with the brake cleaner, I had a hard time finding the leak. Don't know where it is coming from. I suspected that the transmission was overfilled with fluids and when it overheated it came out of the vent. Well, I will have to drop the pan and do a thorough inspection.

L33T35T 4Runner...

...You're right...no "DECEL".
It's called "COAST". Pushing it MAKES you DECEL

Anyway, I just turn cruise on, hit COAST and then ACCEL button (Uh, I hope that's not called the SPEED UP button) and then it works fine. Doesn't work if I hit ACCEL first.
I commute 120 miles round trip 14 times a month on a two-lane highway and I use cruise all the time. Better mileage and more people get to see my Fedora, as they pass me

yes, to use the crusie control first you have to push the set button (bottom button) then if you wish to accel, puch the top button. also, if you push on the brakes or hit the cancel button, but stay above 35, you can hit the top button (resume/accel) and it will go back to the speed where you were at before, slowly though

Boy... you dug deep to find this thread. You mean just the actuator? Or do you want to remove the contols from the steering wheel too? The actuator is just held on with 3 bolts, just disconnect the wiring plugs going to it and unhook the cable at the throttle body and remove it. Oh and plug the vac line too.

This may help:

The cruise buttons on my P/U are a little worn out. I figured out the main switch, and the PDF^^ Doesn't really show me the details of the the right side switches. Could somebody either show me a pic or describe them please?
