Crossing water..

I did a search, but could not find an answer. I have a bone stock 3rd gen 4Runner. How tall can the water be before I risk problems when crossing water?

I am concerned about the engine dying, the exhaust, and water coming inside to destroy the interior. Will water come inside?

Hmmm....my guess is once it hits the height of the hood, its tall enough to get pulled into the air intake tube. You'd have to worry about water in your rear differential if you hadn't extended the breather tubes. Water wouldn't come in initially if the doors had a decent seal, but I wouldn't sit there for too long...

How deep of water you can go in mostly depends on the type of crossing. If you are going through a small rock bottom creek, you can go slow through it and you will have no worries about sucking air into the intake, however you will slowly leak water into the cab if you go deeper then the bottom of the door. If it is a short distance you probably won't even get enough in the cab to notice it. If you are going through a soft bottom crossing, you need to watch out. Sometimes you will need to go fast through these which will then force water up to your intake if it is too deep. Also remember that you need to extend your breathers. In your case the rear breather should be enough.
