cricket lick chirping noise
so i've been having this chirping noise, it only happens in the morning or when its kind of cold out, and the car hasn't been ran yet. it goes away after maybe five minutes if that, i just have to drive around the block once and it goes away and won't come back until the car has had enough time to cool down completley like over night. so i'm wondering if its the water pump its wierd how it goes away though i've checked the belts and altenator pulley bearing. so i hope some one can help. as i dont want catastrophic damage and the chirping bugs the crap out of me. 97 4runner v6 2wd

i have replaced the belts and then i had the chirping so i figured maybe one was to tight or to loose so i checked them all thats why i've been leaning to the water pump issue. but i read in this forum some people having the same problem and they said it was the evap purge valve but i dont see how a valve like that could make what sounds do be a revolutionary chirping noise. so still need help anyone please

I had a similar noise coming form the engine bay right before my water pump kicked the bullet. A bearing inside freed itself and got thrown around inside, destroying my WP. You might want to check when the last time the timing belt has been done, maybe they replaced the water pump at the same time. If they didn't, it might be a WP issue.

yes when i got the runner i did the timing belt and components and had the water pump but they sent me a wp for a 4wd so i'll probably end up replacing that just for peace of mind cause its always in the back of my head cause i never did it and hopfully the noise will go away. thanks a bunch. and other ideas are still considerable. thanks everyone

if the weep hole on the pump is leaking then definitely time to change to the water pump. use your hand and put it above spots of the engine while it is running and when the noise gets a little more muffled you can kind of hear where it is coming from this works very wellfor finding vacuum leaks to, just a quick way to narrow things down.
