Cornfeds all around

Ok,I've done some searching but didn't find all my answers.

I want to do a simple lift using my new stock '99 OEM springs and Bilsteins and I'm a little unsure how big of spacers I should use between the front and the rear since Cornfed sells several sizes. I'd like at least a 2 inch lift all around so will the 2 inch kit keep the stance I have with the rear being a little higher than the front or should I go with a different combo front and back?

Just to clarify what you are asking, you want to keep the amount of rake you have now? If so, then I'd probably get the same height spacers for front and rear.

Also, I know where you can get a good deal on some rear 2.25" spacers clicky and scroll down
THere are several guys around here, including myself, who can vouch for SteveO being a good seller, if you are interested.

Yeah,I guess that's the obvious answer. I just hear complaints of people saying the rear sags when it shouldn't and such. I want to do this lift right the first time and be happy with it.

The sagging issue is an interesting one. Most coils will sag eventually, even if its a very small amount. How soon will just depend on how they are used. Are you planning to tow much or use it off road really hard quite frequently? Like most of us, the answer would probably be tow ocassional and off road, but just mild to medium, then the coils should hold up for quite some time.

It's my daily driver but it'll see some off roading throughout the year and my shocks and springs are brand new so the setup should hold out for as long as I have this Runner.
I'm just getting antsy to stand apart from every other stock 4Runner around here and that number is huge here in Colorado.

I recently replaced the stock coils on my '01 SR5 4Runner with a set of brand new '99 4WD V6 coils all around. If you search on 4X4Wire, you'll find a few posts I did regarding this. I also installed Bilsteins at the same time. Once aligned, the truck sat a good inch higher than before. Although it sat fairly level with the new coils (as it had with the original '01 coils), I wanted the rear slightly higher. So I opted for a 1" anodized aluminum spacer from ProTech. Now it sits exactly how I like it. The gas tank can be full to the rim and the truck still sits a hair higher visually in the rear. Someday I may wish to go higher, but for now it looks and rides great with the 275/70/16 Revos I put on.

Rather than ordering a complete 2" front and rear set, I would suggest buying the fronts first. The spacers will be somewhere around 1" thick (for a 2" lift), since the strut is located midway on the lower A-arm. Once you have these installed, place a jack under your trailer hitch (if you have one) and begin raising the truck. Take a measurement at the fender lip before raising it. Once you have the truck at a height that looks acceptable, check the measurement. You may need a 2.25" spacer in the rear vs. a 2" spacer to have it sit right. The rear will raise exactly as thick as the spacer is.
This of course may be inconvenient if the 4Runner is your daily driver, but it may save you from having to sell spacers that were not thick enough.

Also make sure you have the stock rubber isolator cone for the rear coils. This came on the later 3rd Gens and was part of the rear suspension recall for the earlier ones. It provides a rattle-free set for the top of the coil and adds nearly 1/2".

Hope that helps.

Andreas

Thanks alot for the ton'o info. I had my recall done but they didn't include the cone spacers,I still have the outside ones. Should I harass the dealership into giving me the cone bumpstops since it is definetly part of the recall right?

Still deciding on a lift and my next question is: Do spacers affect the springs much like do they preload the spring a little and make the ride more stiff?

Also how does the ride compare to the PP 1' lift springs with Bils?

In the rear, no. In the front, it depends on the spacer. The top-out type spacers simply lengthen the strut, so there's no preload. Spacers in the coil pack do preload the coil some and will firm it up a little, but its certainly not harsh, IMHO.

Can't help much on the PP 1" springs, other than tell you that they seem to provide a bit more than 1" of lift, at least they did for ALBPM, search for some of his comments on the PP coils and bilsteins.
