Coolant Leak in Front of 3.0 VZE
Gearheads:
Count me in as a do it yourselfer. MY daughter's 94 SR5 4 Runner overheated and warped a cylinder head thus leading to an externally leaking head gasket. However the engine still ran great minus leaky valve cover gaskets. However the radiator cap was not holding pressure. As soon as I changed the cap I started springing a collant leak in front.
Thanks to Enginebuilder.com and their great pricing on DJRock Gasket sets with Q9002 quality certification and a new set of headbolts we can fire the engine again. Only one problem remains. I have omitted the six sided extra Headbolt in the very back passenger side. I now have it in but not tightened. What is the purpose of this extra "headbolt" ? It's torque is 30 ft. pounds instead of 33 ft. pounds as with the new headbolts.I hope to do it without removing the plenium, A bigger problem is that I have a front coolant leak. I have replaced the water pump with a paper gasket and new blue RTV Permatex sealant. The leak seems to be higher up. It even has the timing plate back cover wet with coolant in behind the cam pulleys and on the black backing plate thus leaking onto the timing belt. It just drips down onto the oild pan. Does this sound like the rtv sealant under the upper idler pulley? P.S. Are there any timing cover bolts that could be the source of the leak?
