Hey guys, I have a '96 4runner 3.4 v6. I woke up on sunday and noticed a large coolant puddle running down the street (changed the coolant, toyota red, about 2 months ago and I have been monitoring it no level changes until yesterday). Spent most of yesterday checking things out; rear heating lines, connections, radiator, oil, transmission oil, ect. from the posts I have been able to find here, all appeared solid and/or clear. The coolant is leaking primarily down from the bell housing as the car is parked on a slant, front being elevated above the rear. From what I have read here more than likely indicating a leak from the water-pump. I took off the first timing belt cover and wasn't able to see much. The tb, thermostat, and wp were changed about 60k ago. Does anyone have any idea's on other things to check before starting in on a tb and wp change? Also, I just moved from MN out to WA, Seattle area and does anyone have any recommendations on places to get parts out here or where to order them online? I appreciate the help and recommendations guys, enjoy the start to the week.

i would check on the coolant lines under the middle intake manifold. There are two of them connected to the TB.

I am using coolant and I dont know where it is going. There is no residue on the sides of the radiator. Nothing when I start it up out the muffler. Help

To find you leak. Go to the nearest auto parts store and rent or buy (they're not cheap) a pressure tester for your coolant system. Most places will rent them free of charge around here so i imagine it's the same were you guys live. Install the tool and pressurize the system. It'll show you were the leak is most of the time. Make sure you don't over pressurize your cooling system. My 22re is rated for 20 psi or close to it so i never went over 19 psi.

Most radiator shops will pressure test your system for free, just tell them you want them to do the work if needed, and they should jump right on it!

I was loosing coolant just like you describe and could not pinpoint the source. I finally found the leak at the TB due to a compromised/torn hose at the clamp. I cut off a half inch, re-clamped, and haven't had any issues since. Pic shows the leak - drop of red off the TB line. That 'little' leak drained my cooling system in no time, btw.
