I have a 2001 Tacoma SR5 5spd and as being my daily driver and that i travel a lot shifting gets annoying to me after a while.. is there anyway i can convert it to automatic and if so how hard and how much money would it cost

Umm lots of people here want to make their auto's 5 spd.. swap with them.
Personally i'd sell it and get an auto, way too mcuh work on such a new car...

It's gonna be a pain in the ass. You will need a new wiring harness, ecu, tranny, tranny cooler, new radiator. I would just trade it in for a auto.

dang... ill just have to tough it out then.... jhavent owned it long enough to just turn around and get a new rig. thanks for the info though guys

i got a 95 4runner that is an auto ill trade you straight up lol just think of all that shifting as a good work out that will pay off in the long run.

Ill trade you my 90 pickup, v6 auto, with some cash on the side, for your tacoma. LOL. seriously, if you are interested...

but nonetheless, auto conversion in that truck makes no sense. A lot of work. imo, even though you may have to shift a lot, it makes it nice when you want to have specific control of engine speed.

Manual is so much nicer. I had traffic for about 45 min straight one day. Never got higher than second. The only thing I cared about was my ailiing clutch,

oh i hate traffic... especially when you get stopped on the hills and the a hole behide you give you no space to roll back

The way I look at it. If I am on a hill, the person behind me should be smart enough to give me space. So if I roll back 3inches and hit them, that's their problem and not mine.

Its called roll back into him its gonna be their fault. put a good stong bumber on and turn it into profit. If they are dumb enough to get that close to a truck aspecialy on a hill then their hood deserves the ding and the money it would cost them It sounds bad but its so true. Oh by the way dont swap youll lose power and fuel economy.

If you have to roll back before you can go forward then you need a driving lesson. The guy behind you is not looking for you to back into him and should not have to watch for that. Mike

Just lightly let your foot off of the clutch until it starts to grab and holds you on the hill, then take your foot off of the brake, apply pressure to the accelerator, and let out your clutch.

If the hill is really steep, you'll stall before being able to do that. Using the parking brake to hold you would work, but in my case, the brake won't hold the truck even on flat ground. It takes a pretty quick foot to not roll back on some of the hills around here.

Bob, Bring your truck over here to WV and I will be happy to teach you how to take off from a dead stop on a hill or mountain side with a standard shift without rolling back first. I've done it with Tacoma's , Dump trucks and logging trucks loaded and empty as well as junk Ford, Dodge and Chev. pick-ups. Mike

I think we should just take out all the transmissions in all the cars, and just cut big holes in the floorboards and cruise around a la Flinstones style.

I like my auto, I miss my manual. I guess that puts me in the middle of this debate.
