Converting 97 tacoma from A.D.D to manual locking hubs
OK i got a few questions and i cant find any answers so i am going to give this a try and i might not no everything cause i am just 17 but i am wondering if any one can tell me if i want to convert my A.D.D to manual locking hubs if all i need to do is purchase this kit for say http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/de...QW3660459.html
and that would be all i would need to accomplish the task or would there be other items i would need to consider or is it pretty much bolt on install and help would be greatly appercaited and just to give u some back ground i have a 1997 tacoma ext cab 4x4 5 sp manual and i have installed a rancho suspsion lift kit that consited of new front coils and shocks rasing the front about 1.5 to 2 inches and a add a leaf and new rancho shocks in the rear raising it the same the idea behind the conversion to manual locking hubs is to allow me to install a spacer kit like this http://www.fatbobsgarage.com/cart/pr...4-364-188.html
so in the end i will be able to install 33 x 12.5 or something in that area of tires with out having to cut anything and i am not really interested in a body lift either so ya any help would be nice or if u have questions u can email me at budman90@hotmail.com and i will try and answer them or if u have any other information concerning the pros and cons of such a task

You cannot just buy the hubs. Notice the part at the bottom that says "Except ADD"
You need to search on the forum, there have been several threads concerning switching from ADD to manual hubs.
Downey offroad sells the manual hub conversion that will fit your truck. Its not a bold on/bolt off application, but its fairly easy to do it you are mechanically inclined and have access to a press.

It's a bad idea.
Yes, if you snap an axle, you can simply unlock the hub and drive away. BUT, because manual hub axles are weaker at the tripod and have thinner shafts, you're more likely to break one to begin with. And changing them out is much more difficult and requires a special socket.
ADD axles are thicker and have stouter CVs, and they're easier to change out.
Save the money and put it towards something useful!!!

Tacomas require a conversion kit to go to manual hubs from ADD, earlier model pick ups do not. You can find all the info you want with a simple
