I know, I know.. this has been asked a million times on this forum, but Im a little confused about the MAF sensor cleaning. Can the MAF's on the 2nd gens be cleaned? I dont wanna start reafin' on that puppy, only to find out I damaged it. I'm going to be doing a tune up before too long, and wanted to clean this as well... If its safe. it seems to me I read someone on here broke some wires.....?
I just dont want to see this guy @ the local dealership parts dept.

2nd Gens do NOT have a MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor. They have an Air Flow Meter (AFM). A Vane Air Flow Meter to be exact. I suppose it's possible for them to get dirty, but they'd be a real beyotch to clean.

Here's an article you can read and you will see an exploded view of your AFM in it.

Hey Dr. Z, thats a great explanation. Thanks a lot. I was curious about airflow monitoring in my 94 as well. BTW do you know a good toyota shop in the area? I'm looking for a good place to start going to for stuff thats outta my range of expertise.

You're very welcome. The shop where Jay works does good work. He works at Russ Toyota in Beaverton. There used to be a independent shop in Reedville, but they closed. I do my own maintenance/repairs, so other than that, I don't know. Sorry I can't be of any more help.

If you need help with some stuff that we could tackle together, I'd be up for that if you buy the "coffee".
