cold weather first gear to second issues

When the weather drops below 36, I have issues with the switching of gears from 1st to 2nd???? What is the cause of this problem?

1)Do I need to let the car sit and warm up longer?

2)Do I need a tranny flush with new fluid?

3)Other?

Is there a winter weather tune up for a 02 Taco, manual tran, 4cyl?

we need details. mileage etc.... my guess would be that its just cold OR you have waited too long to do drain the gear oil out and put new gear oil in. usually its pretty thick (manual gear oil) when its cold and will thin when it gets warmer. it needs to be changed every 30k miles or less pending on how you drive

Mine does the same first thing in the morning before it gets warmed up. Doesn't shift from first to second until like 60km/hour.

I'm going to change the oil out ASAP.

In a manual I can understand it using the regular trans oil. I switched to Redline (MT-90) oil and it is a lot easier to shift in cold weather.

I have a 1995 4runner 3.0, and it always did this since I got her. It just needs time to warm up, then she is fine. I was told that this was normal.

normal condition.but change to synthetic gear oil & it will be a lot better.maybe no problem at all

tranny flush. usually when cold and late 1'st to second on pretty much all autos just means it needs a tranny oil change/flush. i did it on amy sisters 98 2.7, made it smooth again.

EDIT: nm just saw it was a manual ha

yea i noticed this on bimmers manuals too, fluid change on the bimmers helped that

I recommend a good synthetic Manual Trans gear oil. This should give you smooth shifting in any weather.

Double check the OEM recommendations but if it has 80/90W gear oil in it then it can be changed to any brand of fully synthetic 75/90 gear oil and your shift problem will likely disappear or greatly improve. The only reason you don't want to this sometimes is obviously if your tranny runs 30W oil or ATF in the manual trans like some of the fords did. (My Toyotas are old, don't know what your 02 has.) but the synthetic stuff is great year round unless you have leaks.

I am going to change the oil. I am currently at 95xxx miles so I am sure it is time.

I used redline oil, and it did help. The shifting is a little easier and not as "notchy".
