Coil Pack

hi, i have a '96 3.4l that shows a misfire incyl4. wires good, plugs good, i noticed that cyls 1 and 4 share the same coil pack- is it possible to have a misfire in only one of the cyl from that coil pack? thanks, don.

I have had that issue before and replaced a coil pack that solved the problem. I checked the CEL code multiple times (after doing spark plugs, then again after doing wires) and sometimes it would show a 1 cylinder misfire and sometimes it would show a multi-cylinder misfire, so I would put in a new coil pack and see what happens

It is possible, although there is a wire that goes to that cylinder as well(will say #1,wires are marked for coil location,NOT wire location)...If you want to find out swap out coils...If miss moves, you have a coil going..if not..chances are its that wire...This is to assume that the plug is good on that cylinder.

put in new wires just in case, plug looks good (20,000 densos), ran good for a few minutes then roughness again. drove 10 miles stopped. ran good for a few when i started it. can coil cause this- i'll swap coils tomorrow to see if code moves...

Yes, a coil failing can cause this.

when i sent my injectors out for cleaning at 165k there were some that were in poor shape and others were moderate.

but a misfire--if it were me--(just to rule out stuffs or if it is time for changing)-- i would sweep the major sensors and scope it.
