Code 51
Hi,
So today I'm driving and the truck backfires and stalls. Won't start again. I change the fuel filter and still nothing. Check the codes and come up with a 51. Anyone have any suggestions.
thanks

I don't have air so it must be the switch or the tps. The tranny has been acting up so i'm leaning towards the tps. Toyota here wants 300 bucks for a new one though. Looking for advice.

Code 51 (Code 11 in older models) sets for one of three reasons.
1. IDL contacts within the TPS open circuit with throttle valve closed or throttle valve not closing fully.
2. A/C on.
3. Vehicle (with Automatic trans.), not in Park or Neutral at time of code retrival.
Note: Unlike ALL other codes, this Trouble code does not need to be "cleared" by pulling the EFI fuse. Just by correcting the problem the code will go away. It does not save to memory.
Note II : This codes purpose is only to be an indication that the perameters for which you put the engine prior to setting timing, idle are NOT met.

Just for kicks, pull the coil wire, then the cap, and have someone crank the motor.. I know you have a code.. But check to see it the rotor turns, rule out the T-belt...
