Clutch or transmission problems

My 91 v6 3.0s clutch squeals when I start it cold. If I push the clutch in, it goes away. When Im shifting, and I press the gas quickly, the engine accelerates but it doesnt increase the speed for 3-5 seconds. I dont know too much about trucks but iam learning alot from this site. I think it is the clutch. I dont know when it was changed. The truck has 143k and I very recently cleaned the throttle body. I dont know if that could have something to do with it. Thanks for your help.

Your clutch is definitely slipping so its clutch related. your throwout bearing sounds like its giving up the ghost as well.

Sounds like clutch to me too.

If I accelerated harder than normal and shifted, the RPMs would rise, but I wouldn't go much of anywhere until I let off the pedal, then it would grab. I have a new clutch now and it works great.

About how much would a new clutch installed cost and is it safe to drive it like that?

I paid $700 even for mine. I had to have both the clutch and slave cylinder replaced. Definately shop around.

Well, the longer you drive like that, the more wear you're going to put on your flywheel. And if your bearing is going out, it is never good for a bearing to completely blow, I don't know what damage would result from something like that.

How long has it been acting like this? And how often does it do this? Like is it only when you really get on the throttle or is it pretty persistant, no matter how you drive?

It has been slipping for 3 days;it only does it if I really press the gas hard; but it has been squeling when I start it in the morning for a month. I dont think im going to be driving it much.

I can't speak for the squealing, but if and when you drive it, just be real nice on the throttle, and shift slower. That's what I did. In fact, I drove for several months with it slipping. It had only progressed quite a bit a few weeks before I replaced it, at a few points, while cruising at 40mph in 4th gear, I would floor it (never touching the shifter or clutch) and it would rev up and not move any quicker, as soon as I let up, it would engage and jolt the car forward.
