Clutch squeak squeal
Recently started hearing a strange squeak (almost like a door that needs oiling) when letting my foot off the clutch. No noise when I press the clutch in, only when I release. I've searched the forum for a similiar problem, but have been unable to find one. I read something about replacing the Release or Pilot bearing, but it sounds fairly complicated.
Has anyone else encountered this issue? The vehicle has just over 50K miles, so I can't imagine the clutch is going bad. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

99,
it could be a number of things:
1) clutch bushing
2) worn seals on clutch MC
3) cracked clutch pedal mounting plate (i dont know the correct word but i doubt this is it)
my squeaking clutch sound was caused by the first two in that order
search all of the terms above and read up.

Thnx for the help Bob. One other thing I noticed while driving home. The clutch makes no noise when it's released at the same time that I'm depressing the brake pedal. I suppose this has something to do with them using the same lines and/or being tied to one another?
Not a mechanic, but trying to diagnose before taking in for repair......the squeaking noise is obnoxious.

Think Ill start with the spring replacement outlined in the above thread. Thnx for the additional assistance.
I noticed someone mentioned a defective clutch pedal assembly in the '99-'00 4-Runners. Did Toyota actually send a recall notice on this? I have moved a few times since purchasing the truck, so would not have received it in the mail.

Bob -- I've had no luck at AutoZone, TrueValue, or Ace Hardware. Are you still using the 2nd Gen clutch return spring? If so, I may order one of these from Toyota. If that doesn't take care of the squeaking, I may take it into the shop.

That is where I think it might be coming from too.
Usually a little bit on the pitchfork seems to help it but only for a short while. I see you noted a few more places to grease that one might be able to hit through the opening on the fork. Now what should I watch out for if I spray some oil/grease in there. I don't want to ruin clutch function to loose a sqeak.

i have an extra 2ng gen spring. if you want it, i'll sell it to you. just find out the price from the dealership and I'll beat it by a dollar or two (shipped), ok?

If you can get grease on the pivot point for the fork I bet it will stop. Do not spray lube randomly in there though. Try to be as precise as possible. If you actually go to remove the transmission you always add grease in the other 2 spots I point out.
