Hey Mp's4r
My 96 4Runner is doing the same thing you describe. Do you recall what ended up fixing the issue? I keep seeing stuff on the internet about replacing the spring, but I'm thinking that if the clutch allows the gear to engage while the pedal is depressed, something must be hydraulically wrong.

Something is hydraulically wrong. Get yourself a slave cylinder and master cylinder, bench bleed the master cylinder and install per instructions and you should be good to go. Fixed my problem a couple years back and still works fine.

Its really not as hard as it seems. I think the master cylinder was like 14 bucks and the slave cylinder was like 8 bucks. If you can bleed brakes then you can do this repair, and save yourself a few hundred bucks. Youll know if youve done something wrong cause you'll be worse off than you are now... Then take it to your mechanic...lol

MP's4R,
Just following up on this old post. I did end up replacing the master cylinder, and the clutch has been working well ever since. I appreciate the encouragement and advice
I'm getting ready to post my 4runner in the for sale forums, and was just looking over old posts. Thanks again.
