We have a '92 Toyota SR5 4x4 pickup with V6 engine - stock.

Sometimes, when turning left (can't make it do it when turning right) there is a clunk and a bang which seems to come from the rear - seems to hit right in the seat of the pants.

It feels like I just drove off a curb suddenly.

Any ideas what this may be.

I have a separate, perplexing problem I will ask about in an different thread.

We think its a broken/ damaged anti-swaybar bracket. While both of you are under there check the front axles/CV Boots. You two may want to take the wheel off, check the brake caliper and make sure you get the lugs tightend when reassembling (80 ft/lbs I think). Hmmm... this may correspond with the "new" rattling sound of the suspension.

This is just a shot in the dark, but it could be a broken leaf spring.

All my money is now on sway bar. For new bushing (and bumpstop) info read through THIS THREAD . Pay attention to 2nd gen part numbers. It's really easy to do. Two bolts on each side.

We have a '92 Toyota SR5 4x4 pickup with V6 engine - stock.

We inspected all suspension components and drive train - nothing broken, nothing missing - nothing bent. U-Joints feel tight.

Checked the front axles and CV joints (tugged on them) and they feel reasonably tight - slightly rattley - but no more than for the last 4 years.

They don't bind in a turn or in reverse turns.

We also drained the gear oil from the rear end - as it appears it may be coming from that area - although hard to tell for sure.

There was nothing in the oil - or on the magnetic drain plug, other than wear and tear residue (dark grey powder - very little)

It handles normally.
It only happens under load, turning left - turn left, straighten out, press throttle and clunk bang.. kinda feel it in seat of pants.
It does not happen all the time - 1 out of 5 turns maybe.

Had two people sit in bed of truck and they say it sounds like it's coming from the rear area.

Very odd.

Did you get this new or used? It almost sounds like you have a locker in the rear.

How would I tell? - I did buy it used - and I really don't know.

Block the front wheels, put it in neutral, jack up one rear tire and try to turn it. If you can, you have open diffs.
