Climate control on a 2000 Limited out! (att: Death Cougar)
The buttons work half the time if at all, its either stuck on AC, or defrost, etc... Cant turn certain settings on or off. Frustrating to say the least (to the point where my no patience short fuse pushed the whole panel into the dash!), and with winter coming I am not happy.
Looked for a used one on ebay but nothing. Don't even want to know how much one would be from the dealer.
If/when I find one....how hard is the swap/install? Just a plug or two? I hope.
Also, is there maybe a fix for this like some sort of little battery running low, relay or sorts or something other then replacing it? Looking for some cause to this problem other then that the unit itself is bad. I was stoked I had this vs. the knobs/dials of the regular runners but now regretting the extra tech.

yes it is an easy and direct swap. If I was you, while waiting to find a new used one (which may end up giving you the same problems) I would first just yank it out and check connections and hit the contacts up with electrical contact cleaner, even behind the buttons.

I had the same problem, took the control head out and opened it up, then used small piecies of electrical tape to shim the contact switches allowing them to be depressed further, since they worked without the cover on manuely depressing them by hand, I had to play with how much to shim, i ended up with 3 to 4 layers of tape cut into tiny pieces, its working so far. I think the micro switch rubber gets worn thin and doesn't completely depress the contact, shimming it allows it to depress completely, Good Luck

Anybody know if its possible to replace the contact switches? I think I have the same problem with my "off" button. I have to push it really hard to get it to work.
