Thumbs down clicking injectors......

Sorry, I am new to this site and have yet to use it's many options. Is there any way to get rid of the clicking sound produced by my noisey injectors on the 22RE motor? It is a 91 4X4 that has a 145,000 miles on it. I just picked it up.

Also what exhaust systems are youguys running on this motor? Any straight out the back? Pics?

Injectors?

Are you sure it's your injectors and not noisy valves?

Hello K, and welcome to YotaTech.

I use to have a '90 22RE in my Extracab that got wrecked.
The ticking is normal.
They are just loud, and my 3.0 does it too.

For some ideas on exhausts, see our link to "YotaTech on the web" that is on the main page.
Near the bottom I have a page I have been putting together of various mufflers.

Most if not all though are from 3.0 & 3.4 V6s.

On my 22RE I use to have, I ran 2.25" tubing from the cat back, and into a hi flow muffler.
I can't remember the brand.

For yours I'd just get a nice muffler and new 2.25" tubing from the cat back and it should sound nice, and you "might" notice a bit of pickup.
Muffler mods don't give you gobs of power, but they can help in off the line performance.

I also had a Tri-Y header on that 22RE too.

yeah I thought that putting an after market exhaust might help drown out that clicking noise. I just got the truck and so far is has been quite a hassle. Good thing I can do almost all of the work myself. Hope none of you ever have to replace a heater core. What a pain in the . Well as far as the valves go, as soon as I can get the thing in the garage I am going to adjust them. I already bought new seals and what not. From what I hear it's not all that hard. Thanks

Dude that is a GOOD sign that your injectors are spraying fuel by going tick tick click click.

Clean injectors click. 22RE's are especially loud. I can hear mine quietly over my exhaust if the conditions are right.

My DSM's injectors clicked when they were new so I don't think it's an issue.

Check out this thread. Your seal might be broken.

I have no more ticking after replacing that.

22re injectors are notoriously noisy, but everything I have read on fuel injectors says that they should be rebuilt/replaced after 100,000 miles. Afterall, imagine how many cycles an injector has gone through in that amount of time.
I suspect other replies are only noting their regular sounding injectors and you have one like the one on my #4 cylinder that isn't just noisy, it is flat out CLATTER.
I'm going to pull and replace all my injectors with some rebuilds or have these rebuilt and balanced. If one is really loud, then they probably could all stand to be redone.
