click click boom?

here's my problem 1991 4Runner 4x4........i just replaced driveshaft and no more shimmy shake....however whenever i'm in 2wd i get a click from under the drivers side of the dash.....kind of a relay open/closed click......it's especially noticeable when i hit a few bumps.....here's the kicker.....it clicks louder and faster and then i get a sound like the drive locked up or snapped....and just as fast as it happened...it's gone.....back to the clicks...if i put it in 4wd.....no clicks but that another story.....as long as i keep my speed above 10mph no worries.....less than 10mph...i think the front driveshaft locks up........is there anything under the drivers side dash that would control the driveshaft or more than likely the transmission?....please help me!!!

Hmmm..... You're in Durham... you sure it wasn't a drive by you were hearing?

Seriously... I have no idea... but I'd wager to say that I doubt that anything electrical is contributing to your issues. It sounds like you may have improperly installed the drive shaft... perhaps you lined up the splines wrong and you were getting a vibration? Check that first! The yokes on the d-shaft should be pefectly lined up when on a flat surface. Even a deviance of 1 spline will give you a vibration. It sounds like you may have grenaded a u-joint, to be perfectly honest.

I don't know if this helps, but when I had a clicking under the dash on my 88 it was because of the speedometer cable. It had to be taken out and regreased.

MAYBE the speedo cable, IF it wasn't also upsetting the driveline itself...

Maybe it was hit by a stray bullet. I lived in Durham for 2 months and there where 7 drive-bys in a 3 block radius.
