Clarification pleas:)

Ok so let me get this straight, my rear third member with detroit trac loc from my 96 v6 4runner, will fit my 1980 front or rear axle housing?

Now do I sell it or do save it for my project truck?

Jason

I believe you need reverse cut gears for the front diff. Someone else will correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm not sure, I thought that you could just swap them back and forth?

You only need reverse cut gears if you are installing a landcruiser high pinion diff in the front. The 4Runner diff should work in the front of the 80

Yes, it will bolt right up to either the front or rear diff of your '80. However, Trac Loc? Never heard of that one. If you possibly mean Tru-Track (LSD), then it won't work right when installed in a front end (unless it was originally for a front and thus not working correctly in the rear of your 4Runner). Tru-Tracks are front/rear specific and have different part numbers. Now if you mean any other Detroit diff, they will work front or rear with no issues.

Thanks for the info, All I know is it's a detroit and when i'm looking at it it's a full locker not just a lock right thingy. It came out of the rear of a 96 runner.

I think I am going to sell it.

Thanks for the info!

Locker? Selling? here? Any guess what you'll be asking for it?

I thought the '96 runners came with the 8.4" diff like the taco's, not the 8"? If you have the 8.4 then I don't think it will work.

4Runners have an 8" diff. The tacos run 8" too, but they have an added support on the bearing caps that dont allow the taco diffs to be put in 4runner housings and vise versa.

Non e-locker tacos have 8.4" difs, not 8" difs.

Sounds like it won't work for me (taco driver) but good luck, i'm sure there are plenty of 4runner guys who'll go for it.

Actully I believe the taco 8.4 is really a hair over a 8in but still a 8in.

Aside from the bearing cap I wounder if the 8in will fit in the "8.4" housing?hmm
