Hi'ya,

Looking at picking up an '03 SR5 4Runner 4WD - V6 and I'm leaning towards sticking with the 16" wheels (although the dealer is offering one with the 17" option). Not sure if there is anything to be gained with the larger wheels/tires ?

Depending on what you plan to do w/ your 03 runner will be the deciding factor in which size wheel you get.

If you plan to do any offroading, I'd say stick w/ the 16". tires are more abundant in this size than 17".

But if you come and think about it, if you just get aftermarket wheels/tires it won't matter

I had heard about the lack of tire availability in 17" - sounds like I should stick with the 16's and take it from there.

it does well offroad (surprisingly!!)

but I think it shouldn't matter which wheel size you get as if you really start upgrading, you'll prob get an 8" width wheel instead of the standard 7". (16x8 vs 16x7)

For me, less money spent on stock was better as it'll be better spent on aftermarket goods ! hehe

Yea if you're gonna try to go for the *BLING BLING* look, then I'd go for the 17's, but if anything else, I'd probably go 16's, cuz who knows what the future holds, and if you had gotten 17's and wanted 16's, then you would have to get a new set of wheels (obviously) but also a new 16" spare, which is what I have to do because I'm goin from a 15" to 16". which will prolly be like an extra 50 bucks, which could go towards something else.

Just a thought.

Toyo_Runner96, if you think 17" wheels are too "Bling-Bling", then my 18" wheels must make you want to vomit... As I have said before, it doesn't go off anything more than a dirt road.

you don't need a new spare wheel. you just need to make sure the tire OD of the spare matches the OD of the regular tires on your vehicle. you can run a set of 16" wheels with 33's and then also run a 15" wheel as a spare as long as the tire on the 15" spare wheel is a 33" tire too, that was an example.

Just make sure that the spare 15" can clear the brake calipers for the wheel...

ill have my 20's on my 4runner in a few weeks the rims are on back order. the tires are sitting in the shop waiting for my babies to come in. HEHEH

Since he's getting/or has the sr5 4runner those come stock w/ 16". The stealer is offering 17" instead just to take more $$ from him that's all...

the Sports model comes std with 17" which becomes an issue cuz they have larger calipers... but since his will be a sr5 he shouldn't have any issues w/ large calipers

He'll just have the same problem as all the other yota owners of making sure to get the correct offset wheel

i like the sport rims the best out of the two styles offered by toyota. There much cleaner, and have a smooth more classic look in my opinion. but those only come in 17" (i think). Oh and i dont like my duelers in the rain, had some crazy heavy rain yesterday and i was getting this bad swooshy feeling in the back of the truck. they dont distribute water very well in my opinion.

oh good news for me the rims have come in so no more waiting. im going tommorow as long as ups gets the rims to the shop in time. crossing my fingers.
