Check Engine Light

Gentlemen: I have a 99 Runner. The check engine icon has been of and on for the last two weeks.Everything seems to be fine.It cost me a grand two years ago at the dealer to resolve the problem(some kind of emissions sensor).I don't want to bring it back.I have 105,000 miles on the vehicle.Anybody have any ideas or suggestions? Thanks...

Well you can see if a buddy of yours has an OBDII scanner

Jiffy lube, autozone, etc usually checks it for free

Or, you can get a descent scanner for under $100. Look around on Amazon, they have some good deals

Get that code read. If you're trying to avoid high repair costs, ignoring your CEL for 2 weeks isn't going to help the cause.

If you think it was expensive the first time when you responded right away, like Brian said, waiting two weeks wont help you. It can end up costing you more as one defective sensor causes the rest of the system to suffer until it drives some other component into the red. Got to Shucks/O'Riellys, AutoZone, NAPA they normally will read your codes for you for free, tell you what the codes mean AND if you write them down, come back and post it up here and there are ALOT of guys on here that could tell you most likely what you need to replace without going to the stealership. It will not just go away. Good luck
