I first came across these on toyotanation.com a few weeks ago. Today, I had a few minutes so I searched the 'net for more info. They look promising. Here's a good write-up:

They're called HIR bulbs, or Halogen Infrared Reflector. They don't create quite the same amount of light as HID, but they're close. And, they're about 1/5 the price of HID. They're also cheaper than PIAAs. Sylvania Silverstars are a good alternative and I'd love to see a side-by-side comparison since they're about the same price. I've found a set of 9006 bulbs for the Camry, but I can't find anything for the 4Runner.

I was going to call a John Deere dealer but completely forgot about them. Maybe wolfpack has some pictures of his lights.

Just called a couple John Deere dealers about HIR bulbs, first one didn't know what I was talking about, second one said he wasn't sure what I was talking about, but if it was for John Deere (I didn't want to say it was for a 4runner and not a John Deere piece of equipment), he could get it. So maybe someone else can chime in and give an idea of where to get the bulbs.

I have HIR bulbs in my IPF Driving lights. They are the H3 variety however. Here is a huge discussion on them and what they are all about.
