Changing your belts

I searched and could not find a straight forward method or instruction for the changing of my belts on the 3.4 or 5vzfe if you will. I found plenty on the timing belt and feel I could do that with my eyes shut. This left me thinking I wish my manual wasn't 230 miles from here and where the hell do I start.

1. lift and support the hood
1.5 if skid plate equipped use I believe a 12mm socket to remove factory skid plate or if budbuilt equipped remove only the front portion with a 5mm allen, 14mm socket or open end, and whatever you used up front in my case a 1/2 deep socket and 1/2 open end.
2. using a 10mm socket remove the fan shroud
3. using a 12 or 13mm wrench remove the fan
4. using a 14mm locate and loosen the tension adjustment on the PS pump
5. using a 14mm locate and loosen the top most and bottom most bolts on the ps the center one doesn't seem to move. The lower one is attachd to the tensioner and will allow it to move freely. I found it neccesary to loosen the tensioner in #4 quite a bit.
6. using a 12mm and 13mm locate and loosen the alt. tension adjustment and bracket bolts locate top left and bottom right of the alt.
7. using a 14mm wrench or socket locate and loosen the tensioner pulley on the very bottom and the pulley itself.
8. Remove old belt one at a time noting which number goes where I use Napa belts but it's really up to you it just makes it easy to remember what went where. The belts come off in 123 and go on in 321.
9. reverse directions 8-1 and you should be good to go. do make sure and check all your pulley for play or friction, as this will indicate time for replacement.

As I realize pictures would have been awesome it is pretty straight forward once you know what the hell it is you are doing!

what'd you think of the ps belt tensioner bolt location? that is a pain in the butt to get to. i could only turn the bolt about ¼ turn at a time. i still don't think the bolt as tightened up to the point it was at with the old belt, but it isn't squealing (anymore) and the ps is working.... didn't really want to buy a tension gauge when it's all working as is...

If you go to autozone they can print out the instructions. I used a copy of that and my Hayes manual and it worked fine. I think the autozone was better than the manual

Man that would have been great to know I just forgot. But like always I'm faced with a problem and steamed ahead completing it in no record time but completed just the same.
