Changing water pump and timing belt on a 3.0...any gotchas?

I'm changing my timing belt, water pump, T-stat, and tensioner pulleys for the T-belt on my 3.0 as some preventative maintenance next weekend. Is there anything I need to know about this job or anything else I should look while in there. My cousin who's an ASE mechanic is doing the work I will just be standing around drinking beer and stupervising. I'm planning on just pulling the radiator clear out. It needs a good flushing anyways and some new fluid. Anyone have any inputs??

Just done my timing belt and idler along with tensioner pulley. I'd recommend getting some cam seals...that is if you can get the cam gears off! Mine wouldn't budge....Anyways make sure ya get all the timing belt housing gaskets and im sure ya thought of water pump gasket. I changed my center idler because it was shot. There should be 3 bolts that hold an access panel on that hides the bolts to take off the idler. We finally got the small panel out of the way with some convincing (cussing) and angled a socket in to get the bolts out. If we didn't do it like that we would have had to take the whole intake plenum off to get those 3 bolts out. Ummm...if he is an ase mech then he should know to line up the cam gear marks and crank gear mark with the block. Rest is disassembly and assembly. would have taken us 3-4 hours to do it but we were waiting on the women to bring our gaskets back....what a mistake! Have fun!

Timing belt housing gaskets eh? Is that the one that goes behind the big plastic piece on the front of the engine? I would not have thought of that. Thanks for the information! I saw a write up a while back to on here I will have to look again. Anyone have a link to that offhand so I dont' have to search through a bunch of threads?

I would do the cam seals, and front main seal as well.

Pick up lots of brake cleaner to hose it all down with.

That gasket should be sold in either 3 or 5 different pieces. Thats how I got it from the dealer but I just used the main big one because the rest were good shape. I bought new belts too because I had them off anyways...
