Changing coolant - trapped air?

Every time I change my coolant in my 92 4x4 3.0 V6 it always wants to run hot even with a full radiator. I shut if off and sometimes have to wait for several hours before the coolant level drops enough to add. Where is this trapped air and how what can I do to eliminate in future changes? Thanks!

take off the upper rad hose from the radiator and pour some coolant into the engine..........thatll get rid off the air trapped and make the thermo open when it warms up (then it wont ever overheat on you whenever you change the coolant)
