Changing from Carb to EFI

Hello All

I have a friend that has an 1987 Toyota short bed. He is wanting to change his motor from Carb to EFI. He is looking for an EFI kit cheap off a wrecked truck. Would anyone have any suggestions or know where to look or anything? LOL

Thanks
Richard

find somebody parting an EFI truck, grab the computer, all wiring and sensors related to the EFI, intake manifold, airbox with AFM, etc. there's writeups on the net, just look around.

Google "Carb to EFI Toyota 22R 22RE"

Tons of information.

You might also consider going to propane instead w/ the price of gas if it is going to be a trail rig

from '85 on the heads(except the 22RTE head) were all exactly the same. i think the cam profiles might've differed a little, but they're compatible.

We need to find the actual hardware. Does anyone know of any Junk/wrecked trucks around or where to look for them? I think we can do it if we can just find the EFI off a wrecked truck.

Thanks,
Richard

Where is "around"??? You don't have any information in your profile to let us know where you are in the country/world.

Be sure to grab the distributor as well as they are different between the carb & efi models.

I'd start w/ the local phone book and look up junkyards for imports. Then I'd go online and do the same. Then I'd put up classified ads on different toyota forums stating what you are looking for. That is where I would start...depending on how hard you look will determine what you find...

Good luck.

Dont forget about the fuel pump. Easisest would be to swap over the entire EFI tank w/pump.

I don't think my friend had Propane as an option. He would really like to go to EFI if at all possible. Does anyone have any yota forums that I can post a classified on besides this one? Also could some repeat all the hardware that will need to be required to perform this swap from 22R to 22RE?
Thanks, guys I'm new at this and I've never tried to find something like this on the net before but we thought this would be a good place to start.

Richard
I'll also contact some local Junkyards as well.
Thanks again

How bad are you looking to do this? There is many Toyota trucks in my yard with all the fuel injection you need. I think I even have the FI and some other parts in my garage if I remember correctly.

He would like to do this pretty bad, but doesn't want to spend a lot of money, this is why he is looking to get the parts off a wrecked/junk truck.
