Center dashboard space
Hello,
Seeing pics of american or japanese 4Runners I've noticed that some have room enought to put two DIN radios.
I'm studying the possibility of installing a car PC in my truck and I've the problem of the screen. If I take off my current player I could put an in dash touch screen, but these screens are expensive.
Normal touch screens are quite cheaper and can be fitted in a double DIN dash.
My 4Runner seems to have a piece of plastic to convert the room in one DIN socket, but if I'd take the plastic off my hole isn't yet a double DIN...
Looking at the exterior dash plastics in both 4Runners (American and mine) seem to be equal... Where's the room I don't have? I'm not able to see it.
American 4Runner (Mile's one)
Mine:
I have a little plastic pocket below the ash tray, and american 4Runners seem don't but where has the room of my 4Runner gone?
Anybody knows if the shape of the lower dash of american and european 4Runners are different? I'm getting a little confused...

The size of Mile player and mine are the same? Mine is a standard size... DIN size.
I'm getting bored of seeing the two pics and looking for differences

Looks like your trim is thicker like you suggest. That is a small trim piece that you need to open it up. It only goes from around the heat controls and clock, down around the radio. Should be pretty inexpensive if bought used. It's light, so shippping should not be much - even to Barcelona.

Thanks Cebby, I'll ask Jason (toyota parts dude) hehehehe.
Do you have some kind of website? Your 4Runner is one of the prettiest I've seen.

A double DIN opening is not ACTUally double DIN = you can't put 2 DIN radios in it. Morelike 1 3/4.... I had to do some major surgery to get the inclinometer in there, I could only cut down the clinom just so far... I'd measure mine for you, but it's not stock size any more.

I trimmed out above and below the opening right to the dash structure. Probably took out 3/16" each. Then used a hot blade on a soldering iron to reshape the opening. My radio bracket is touching the bottom of the molded structural piece, and the inclinometer is touching the structure above, I cut the case to the point where it is exactly as high as the dials themselves. I could not take out another 1/16" of any part!

In case you were wondering, you have to remove the trim rings..

Thanks for your replies. When I have earned the money to buy a touch screen I'll buy an american type piece for the dash and put it in my truck.

Okay, I just measured mine. After I trimmed the opening as large as I could (as mentioned above) I have 4 3/16" of height.
Pic from when I was fitting the inclinometer-you can see inside the upper opening where the dash structure is (it's orange too because the dash was out when it was painted.) I trimmed the bottom in a similar manner and installed the stereo as low as I could get it.
