CB Radio mounting ideas
Am looking to mount my full-size CB in my 2001 4Runner, but haven't found a good place that makes it accessible from the driver's area. Any suggestions are welcome, pics are better since they are worth 1k words!

Thanks for the welcome. Been reading here for a while and thought I'd finally jump in.
The CB is a Realistic TRG-452, basically an older Uniden made for Radio Shack. I've had it for about 12 years and hate to see it sitting my garage. Am unsing the Cobra 75WTX right now and while I like the size, it tends to pick up lots of static & noise. The Realistic has an RF Gain that I can control to eliminate that. Thought about modifying the dash but really don't want to tear the interior up too much.

Hi fellow Coloradan. Welcome aboard.
That type thing works for X-tra cabs and 4Runners but in a short cab there is no rear point to mount to without drilling and creativity.
Lots of CBsgo into the din below the stereo on older models.
What do you drive?

OK where to put a CB.... I'd love to know how .Steve's works. That's a clean install. Where are the wires though? Where is the mic?
One designed with a forward speaker and a forward mic plug in the Din below the stereo would work well. The downward firing speaker models work best up on the ceiling. But how to get it there dosen't look like any kind of plug and play job. The headliner needs to partially come out and wires run down the A pillar to make it look like that. It can be done with patience

You mount an L bracket to the center console in front of the 4WD shifter. with the vertical part of the "L" toward the front of the car. Bend the vertical 45 dgrees toward the rear of the car and mount the CB on that. Then take another piece of sheet metal and mount it to the top of the CB and it can insert into the dash beneath the AM/FM radio.
You can see the lower bracket (silver) right below the radio in the pic.
I actually just used scotch 2 sided sticky to mount everything and it doesn't even rattle when I'm tearing down dirt roads

I had the same thought ezra, just what is all that, (besides the obvious laptop) and some sort of radio or radios?
I have something similar for my Midland 79-290 only I have a metal piece (about 1-1/2 by 1/8 steel) that straddles the console ahead of the shifters. It is mounted with some bolts into tapped holes in a couple of pieces that stick out under the console flat against the carpet.
Then I have two angled pieces (1x1/8) that mount to the part straddling the console at an angle to hold the radio similar in position to ezras. Its not the neatest install, but it works for me; but than I'm not a big guy. It might be in the way of someone else's knee and there isn't a lot of clearance for the hands on the shifters either. I can tweak the volume and squelch without looking. The other buttons and knobs are a little tougher and I wish they were bigger. With my contact lenses in, I need reading glasses to see close-up anymore.

Not sure exactly how big a "full size" CB is, but if it will fit, and has a front firing speaker, I think the dash is a great place, if you've got a din available...

I just jammed mine inbetween the center console, and the passanger seat. SOMETIMES it comes loose, but most of the time it stays put. I'll snap a pic after my class this morning...man school is getting in the way of playing with my truck!
