I listen on the general channels, 17 & 19, when just driving around. It helps me fight traffic and the speed limit. I find that 7 & 27 are pretty popular as well. These are pretty much the only channels I listen to.
-Cheers!

Thx Gene. I'll try out those channels on the highway this weekend and see if there's any chatter on them. What about you other guys here? Same channels?

4 is really popular with 4 Wheeling groups on the trails everywhere. Sometimes so popular that if there are 2 or more groups in the same area, the smaller, or less talkative group will move to another channel. There seems to be an unwritten rule or common courtesy regarding 2 groups on the same channel, the smaller group moves.
Yesterday I was on a run with a few ODW guys who decided on 10. With my crappy handheld sometimes cutting out and re-setting to 9 by default, I had some of their signal coming in on 9. I need to upgrade soon. Obviously my unit is not tuned properly. 9 is for emergency transmitions only, so I suggest staying away from 8 and 10 in case someone in your group has a bad radio, kind of in between channels like mine. |

Thx for the added info.
I did get a chance to test it out today. Tuned it as best I could and off I went. I hooked up with a girl on channel 14 after 'surfing' through the different ones available. Channels 17 and 19 weren't coming through very clear, but most importantly channel 14 was and so was she. ![]() She sounded cute, but I just chatted for a little bit to test out the CB and it seems great. As per another post I made though, forget about the magnetic antenna. Don't need those scratches in my paint so I'm off to get a permanent mount tomorrow with a quick release.

In Texas 19 is the typical calling channel. But the 4x4 channel is usually channel 4.
