Cat questions

How important is it to have a good cat on the truck? Right now im running a hollow cat with a flowmaster muffler and 2" pipe from the cat back. Is it important for me to replace the cat? In my area smogging it isnt and issue unless i sell. The guy at the muffler shop said i dont have to worry about since i dont drive over 65(no freeway round here).

Thanks for any advice,
Andy

it will hurt your vehicle performance.. no matter what anyone says, it was designed to reduce greehouse gases and NOX and HC and other stuff... it is harmful to the environment, if you have EFI, it will screw up the codes as most run with an O2 sensor and it will goof that all up too.... physically it isnt going to hurt the truck, but running dirty is jsut not a good thing....

a hi flow one... cats are pretty much universal, they are either stock flow or hi flow.... all they do is reduce harmful gas output.....

All the engine management relies on the 1st O2 sensor, the 2nd after the cat converter doesn't really do anything.

It works as an on/off switch to tell the computer if something went horribly wrong with the cat. It does not function in any way similar to the 1st O2 which actually detects temperature variations.
