Question carb. help '85 22R

'85 22r since major engine work I have trouble getting the high (warm-up)
idle to work. After engine reaches op. temp. runs smooth at 800rpm. I've
checked for vacuum leaks and tried adjustments of the three screws on the
carb. (two on linkage and one on carb. body, cleaned dirt/varnish from
linkage and 'butterfly' plates to no avail. My normal start sequence is
pedal to floor once then turn key. Before engine work it would hold high
idle (approx 1100rpm) until op. temp. then smooth out just fine. I don't
understand how having the intake manifold off could mess up the carb.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks
Nathan

Look and see if the choke is working. The choke helps the moter to start in cold weather and also make it idle higher when the moter is cold.
