cap and rotor for 3.0 question

cap and rotor for 3.0 question
well I have a brand new set of wires now because I broke one pulling it off, but I'm not going to install them till I get a cap and rotor tomorrow.
the pack of wires came with some dielectric grease, and I was just thinking.. should I put some on the rotor and the contact points on the cap to maybe keep it from rusting out like my current ones did??
is this a bad idea?

Yep...Bad idea. The inside of your distributor moves...and moves fast. You don't want the grease getting slung around in there and grounding out your spark.

Dielectric grease is Non -conductive. It's main purpose is for corrision and heat dissipation. That said , I still wouldn't put in in the cap either.

thanks guys, I just checked in the haynes manual and it does say to put a dab of silicone lubricant on each terminal in the cap. the only type I have is in a spray can though... should I put a little bit of that on each one or forget that idea also?

As for lubing the distributor cap with silicon. I've never done it and most likely never will. The silicon lube will impede the flow of electrictiy. I always made sure everything was clean and dry, just like the hermetically sealed mayonaise jar on Funk & Wagnall's front porch.
