Cant find a bull bar

i have a 2002 4runner limited and i am looking for a black bull bar. I have called westin and manik and neither of them make them for my model year. Can anyone recommend other good brand bull bars? Also, i have read about them being pretty shaky and not a good platform for mounting real aux lighting. I understand that they are mainly for looks and provide little to no front end protection in a crash. Has anyone tried welding one on? is that a bad idea?

THESE will provide solid mounting points for your aux lights.

Not true man....they are for the tacomas but they work on our rigs I think through 2002. It might be different for the "fat lip" bumpers on the newer models. Mine is a '97...

Actually, I got it from a fellow member on here for a good price. They are pricey otherwise...like almost $400 I think. So you may just go with something a little beefier like an arb or tjm if you have the green...

There are a wide variety of places to get them...

Oh and yes its pretty solid, the lights shutter a little if I'm on gravel or something but nothing severe or as bad as my POS brushguard. I might be willing to cut you a deal on mine if you want...

Yeah, actually...that could be a problem, mine probably wouldn't fit your year. I'm not sure though, take a picture of your front frame rails so I can see how they compare to mine...if they extend far enough to support the bumper then it might clear...not sure. Maybe you could find an older gen tacoma in your area and compare the front frame rails...hell just go to the local mall and crawl under one. I'm not sure which one would fit without looking at that first....

I actually did the wheels myself...they are sanded down and painted basically with a lot of primer, then paint, and finally clear coat. If you were interested in the write-up...do a search under my name Skrillah and look for all my threads. It should have a clear title as to what the thread is...

You will find that there is a difference between Gen 3 accessories for the bumpers as the 99-02 has a bit of an extention to it. I had looked at doing a bumper swap on my 98 so that I could have the lower valence for OEM floods but because of the "fat lip" design it is a bit more difficult to do a bumper swap. You will find that the Taco bull guards mentioned would work if you have a 96-98 4runner. I'd take a few measurements between 4runners and Tacos to see which model if any would work for your Gen3 Flight2 4Runner. good luck!

the point (for me) is that they look tough. thanks for the info ritzy. i just can believe that after 6 years no one is making a bull bar for my 4runner. i will take pix and post. and i love the idea of going 2 the mall for a comparison. lol.

From the looks of that pic...no way the westin I have on my rig will work.

Like I said, go to the mall/shopping center...whatever and find a newer taco. Look under there and find out if the front end looks like yours...then order based on the year of the taco. You should be able to figure out years based on the body style but if not post it up here...we'd be able to help.

Its ghetto I know but it depends on how bad you want a bar like that. There may be a chance that I'm totally wrong and no taco will match up to your body style...i dont' own an '02 or one of the newer tacos but hell its worth a shot. Maybe some one will chime in and say I'm an idiot and then you don't have to waste your time.

Like others have said, they are for looks and a place to mount some lights. When I get a better cash flow, an ARB will def be in the works cause I would like something that enables real use and abuse. They are damn near $1000 bucks though when you include shipping!! So...yeah.

I score one set off ebay and my friend gave me his off of his Taco, and after several months, it actually looked lame, I took them off and sold both to a kid with a 2WD blue head light 4runner. Like Skrillah said, those bull bars are for looks (which doesn't look that good IMO) and mount lights only, not neccessarily useful nor looks tough. You should save up for some real bumper such as ARB or TJM.
