Ok, i have found a 1st gen Supercharger (if you find it please don't buy it). Plus it is local so i could pick it up.
What i want to know is should i even worry about it? Or wait for a 2nd gen? If i wait for a 2nd gen it could be awhile/never that i get it though.
What are the differnces between the 1st gens and later gens Superchargers? Anything i should know?
And yes, i would be getting all the fuel mods to go with it, but i need the SC befor ei get those.

As far as I understand, the 1st gen ones are 2 pieces and gray while the 2nd gen superchargers are 1 piece and black.
Buy this one, spray paint it with engine paint, rebuild the nose cone, drive it like you stole it.

Anyone know if they will work fine with the URD stuff like the 2nd gens? (I assume yes, but you never know)
LOL, I would already have to beg and pleade to get it right now. If i can't get it i will post a link and it will be open game.
But i just hope that no one gets it before i am able to.

Sounds like you need to NOT get it if you can't afford it. Seriously, be smart with your money. A supercharger requires fuel mods and premium every tank. Are you ready for that financial commitment?

After that then it is not a big dea. And since my truck is used for my work quite a bit i get about half my gas paid for me :-)
If ya'll want to help me have some spending $$$ then buy my stuff: http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZiamso4cru
Lots of truck parts there as well as paintball. Thats where a lot of my spending $$$ for my SC is coming from.

The first generation superchargers are functionally identical to the second gen superchargers.
As long as you are fine with the ugly grey beast bolted to your engine, get it!

So can the 1st gen version have ll the corret fuel mods and such done to it and work fine and safe for my engine?
Also, is it as easy to setup and tune as the 2nd gen version?

This saves space and allows a more compact installation so it can be fitted to more applications. Magnuson has taken this to the extreme and made the supercharger body, bypass valve, and plenum all one casting to make for a very compact installation. Some people get confused thinking that the new supercharger is a totally different supercharger. It really is not. It is still an Eaton M-62, 62 cubic inch supercharger. Magnuson has really done a fantastic job on the second version. The layout and casting is very well thought out and still uses all the factory connections and cables. The newer one is easier to install saving on installation time and confusion.

Tuning them will be exactly the same. Supposedly the 1st gen is very slightly more difficult to install, but I doubt it's THAT much harder since you're already taking your engine's entire intake off to install fuel injectors and stuff.

Tuning will be somewhat easier with the URD 7th injector kit rather than the URD 3.4l Supercharger Fuel upgrade kit, so if you don't plan on tuning your engine like a maniac and trying to go with much higher boost and/or mods, get the URD 7th injector kit.

I've heard that the belt tensioner for the 1st gen is not as good as the one for the 2nd gen, so you might look into that... I think Toyota calls it the "Dynamic Tensioner" or something.
The tensioner is not attched to the supercharger itself so it would be possible to find the "better" belt tensioner later on and install it at your convenience.

Good thread, I was thinking about this myself.
I aslo have access to a first gen supercharger that just needs a nose cone rebuild that was removed (from a 99 tacoma) during warranty work from a nearby shop.
I have been putting it off, because I was told that the ports were different and would not line up properly since I have a 2000 4runner.
But wouldn't the light grey color run cooler and not soak up as much heat.
I for one do not care what color it is. My motto is: function over form.
After reading this thread, I might slap it on and see after I collect all the fuel mods and rebuild the nose cone.
